Revs welcome Impact to Gillette

Sep 13, 2014 - 7:03 PM Foxborough, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - A pair of Eastern Conference rivals will clash on Saturday as the New England Revolution welcome the Montreal Impact to Gillette Stadium.

New England will hope to continue its ascent up the Eastern Conference standings as the club is coming off a 2-1 win over the Chicago Fie last week which kept the team in third place in the East with 39 points.

Diego Fagundez struck in the first half and Charlie Davies hit for the winner on the hour mark to help the Revs claim a fourth straight win in league play.

It was the visitors that opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Quincy Amarikwa got free down the left flank and served a great cross into the area where Nyassi, who easily nodded it past New England goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth.

But the Revs claimed the equalizer four minutes prior to the intermission as Fagundez coasted toward the far post unmarked an easily nodded home a cross from Lee Nguyen to send the sides into the break on level terms.

The hosts then snagged the lead with 30 minutes to play as Davies did well to beat the Fire offside trap and get in behind courtesy of a well-played ball from Jermaine Jones and slide it past Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson into the bottom left corner.

"I'm really excited with the way we played. It was tough to go down a goal, but I thought our reaction was really good and two games in a row we've given up the first goal, but our reactions have been really good," said New England head coach Jay Heaps.

"Charlie (Davies) has been great for us; he's been awesome. Quite frankly, I think he's been one of our inspirational guys."

Montreal, meanwhile, will attempt to put together a complete 90-minute performance after settling for a 2-2 draw with the Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday at Stade Saputo.

The home side opened the scoring when Dilly Duka got free down the left wing and laid the ball into the path of Marco Di Vaio for an easy tap-in at the near post.

The Impact then made it 2-0 two minutes before the break when Felipe sent it low into the box on the counter-attack for Ignacio Piatti, who had time to turn and rip it past Galaxy goalkeeper Brian Rowe.

But the Galaxy answered back with goals from Gyasi Zardes and Alan Gordon to come away with a point.

"We knew it was going to be an emotional match," said head coach Frank Klopas. "We are where we are right now and we won't be giving up until the end. There's a lot to play for right now and we have one of our biggest games of the year next week. We need all of our fans to be there for us. We need this place very loud because this isn't over yet."
