Meyer, Bell and McGlenn Earn Weekly Honors
Apr 8, 2014 - 7:50 PM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Spokane Shock quarterback Erik Meyer has been awarded Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week, while LA KISS Mac linebacker Beau Bell has been named the Riddell Defensive Player of the Week and New Orleans VooDoo defensive back Cameron McGlenn has been named J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Week for Week 4 of the 2014 NET10 Wireless Arena Football League season. In addition to these awards, the AFL is also awarding the Cutters Catch of the Week and AFL Highlight of the Week. Tampa Bay Storm wide receiver Justin Hilton earned the Cutters Catch of the Week, while the VooDoo's McGlenn was awarded the AFL Highlight of the Week.RUSSELL ATHLETIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Meyer (6-2, 215, Eastern Washington) completed 19-of-28 passes for 258 yards and four scores in addition to setting a new single-game franchise record with four rushing touchdowns in Spokane's 73-62 victory over the San Jose SaberCats in Week 4. The 2013 Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Year and AFL MVP has recorded a triple-digit passer rating in each of the last three games and stands just seven passing yards shy of 7,000 for his career.
RIDDELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Bell (6-2, 240, UNLV) broke his own single-game franchise record for sacks with four in Week 4. It was his second multi-sack game of the year, having totaled three sacks in his debut game with the KISS in Week 1. He earned Riddell Defensive Player of the Week honors for that performance as well. The fourth-year pro leads the League with seven sacks on the season.
J. LEWIS SMALL PLAYMAKER OF THE WEEK
McGlenn (6-0, 190, Elon) recorded five tackles, two interceptions and three pass breakups in the VooDoo's 62-55 victory over the Orlando Predators in Week 4. The fourth-year defender leads New Orleans with three interceptions on the season, including one which was returned for a touchdown. He will be awarded a timepiece crafted by J. Lewis Small for his efforts.
CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK
Hilton (6-2, 195, Indiana State) made a one-handed 22-yard reception for a touchdown in Tampa Bay's 63-49 victory over the Philadelphia Soul in Week 4. The second-year receiver has caught a touchdown pass in five consecutive games dating back to last season. He will receive a Cutters hat and shirt in recognition of the catch.
AFL HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
McGlenn (6-0, 190, Elon) returned one of his two interceptions for a touchdown in the VooDoo's 62-55 victory over the Orlando Predators in Week 4. The pick- six went goal line to goal line, as McGlenn dodged multiple Predators to return the ball 49 yards for a score. The interception was the 25th of McGlenn's four-year career.
Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Maurice Purify, Cleveland's Shane Austin, Los Angeles' J.J. Raterink, New Orleans' L.J. Castile, Pittsburgh's Aaron Lesue and Tampa Bay's Amarri Jackson.
Riddell Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Jeremy Kellem, Cleveland's LaRoche Jackson, New Orleans' Cameron McGlenn, Pittsburgh's Brandon Freeman, Spokane's Terence Moore and Tampa Bay's Chris Smith.
J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Week candidates included: Iowa's Marco Thomas, Jacksonville's Mardy Gilyard, Los Angeles' Donovan Morgan, San Antonio's D.J. Stephens, San Jose's Rod Harper and Tampa Bay's Chris Smith.
