Davila, Lewis and Dukes Earn Weekly Honors

Jun 3, 2014 - 6:48 PM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Arizona Rattlers quarterback Nick Davila has been awarded Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week, while Iowa Barnstormers defensive end Mike Lewis has been named Riddell Defensive Player of the Week and Arizona Rattlers defensive end Cliff Dukes has been named J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Week for Week 12 of the 2014 NET10 Wireless Arena Football League season. In addition to these awards, the AFL is also awarding the Cutters Catch of the Week and AFL Highlight of the Week. San Antonio Talons defensive back Kelvin Rodgers has been awarded the Cutters Catch of the Week, while the AFL Highlight of the Week has been awarded to Spokane Shock wide receiver Nick Truesdell.

RUSSELL ATHLETIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Davila (6-3, 220, Cincinnati) came off the bench for the first time in his AFL career to complete 15-of-19 passes for 136 yards and four touchdowns in Arizona's 51-42 victory over the San Jose SaberCats in Week 12. Playing with a heavy heart one day after the passing of his father, Davila shifted the momentum immediately upon entering the game tied at 21 early in the third quarter. The "Latin Laser" proceeded to guide the Rattlers to victory and their fourth straight West Division championship.

RIDDELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Lewis (6-2, 260, Adrian) collected seven tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup in Iowa's 58-48 victory over the Orlando Predators in Week 12. He also moved past B.J. Cohen for fifth place on the AFL's career sack leaders list, bringing his five-year total to 47.5 in the game.

J. LEWIS SMALL PLAYMAKER OF THE WEEK

Dukes (6-4, 295, Michigan State) tallied 4.5 tackles, two sacks, two pass breakups and a safety in Arizona's victory to seal the West Division title in Week 12. He has recorded a tackle for loss in four straight games and will be awarded a timepiece crafted by J. Lewis Small for his efforts.

CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK

Rodgers (6-1, 180, Minnesota State) snagged an interception in the end zone and returned it for 19 yards in San Antonio's 40-76 defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Soul in Week 12. Rodgers made an athletic play on the ball to tip it to himself and come down with his AFL-high ninth interception of the year. He will receive a Cutters hat and shirt in recognition of the catch.

AFL HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

Truesdell (6-7, 240, Cincinnati) hauled in an over-the-wall four-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter of Spokane's 58-48 victory over the Portland Thunder in Week 12. In his first career game, the recently acquired Truesdell finished with four catches for 41 yards and two touchdowns.

Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Iowa's Brian Reader, Philadelphia's Dan Raudabaugh, Pittsburgh's Tyrone Goard, Spokane's Brian Zbydniewski and Tampa Bay's Randy Hippeard.

Riddell Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Cliff Dukes, Philadelphia's Rayshaun Kizer, Pittsburgh's Al Phillips, Spokane's Terrance Sanders and Tampa Bay's James Harrell.

J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Week candidates included: Arizona's Rod Windsor, Iowa's Darius Reynolds, New Orleans' Quorey Payne, Philadelphia's Anthony Jones, Pittsburgh's Arvell Nelson and Spokane's Terrance Moore.
