Rochester selected to host next outdoor AHL game

Aug 13, 2013 - 8:47 PM Rochester, NY (Sports Network) - The American Hockey League announced the addition of the newest outdoor hockey game on Tuesday.

The Rochester Americans will take on the Lake Erie Monsters at Frontier Field on December 13. It will be the sixth such open-air contest in league history.

"This will be an exciting week for the city of Rochester, the state of New York and, of course, the game of hockey," said Ted Black, president of the Rochester Americans. "With more than 10 teams coming from all corners of the state -- and from all levels of the game -- to play hockey, this will be a tremendous event to showcase the exceptional hockey teams we have in this region. More importantly, it will be a fun and different way to experience hockey. Whether you're a player or a fan watching your favorite team, these games will be the games you'll never forget being a part of."

Last season, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins took a 2-1 overtime decision against the Hershey Bears at Hersheypark Stadium in front of more than 17,000 spectators.
