Blue Jays avoid arbitration with P Cecil

Jan 16, 2015 - 12:34 AM Toronto, ON ( - The Toronto Blue Jays avoided arbitration with relief pitcher Brett Cecil by signing him to a one-year contract on Thursday.

Cecil, 28, is set to make $2.475 million next season after he compiled a 2-3 record with five saves and a 2.70 earned run average over 66 appearances in 2014.

The left-hander is 35-30 with a 4.38 ERA and six saves in 213 career games (74 starts) spanning six seasons with Toronto.

The Blue Jays also signed outfielder Andy Dirks to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
