Bolton wants to beef up Carlton's depth
Aug 7, 2016 - 8:26 AM Carlton coach Brendon Bolton wants to beef up his AFL club's depth in every position during the off-season frenzy.Sunday's 71-point loss to St Kilda at the MCG was the Blues' biggest defeat under Bolton.
Carlton have been surprisingly competitive for much of the season, including a 19-point win over Geelong and one-goal loss to Sydney.
But an eight-match losing streak suggests there is plenty of work to do for list manager Stephen Silvagni.
"We'll address that at the end of the year. I know Stephen Silvagni's doing a lot of work in that area," Bolton said, when asked about the sort of talent he'd like to recruit.
"We've got areas across our list that we'd like to fix. It's not just one particular area.
"We knew we're in a reset.
"It will take time to get more depth in all positions."
Bolton hoped the lopsided loss was an aberration ahead of clashes with Brisbane, Melbourne and Essendon.
"We looked a little tired and sluggish today on the back of some really close and hard-fought games in the last month," he said.
"The job now is to give players guidance and for leaders to give other players guidance on improvement areas.
"Defensively we weren't where we have been this year .. we didn't defend well.
"We turned balls over when we were out and free."
