AFL defender Silvagni delisted by Dockers
Oct 26, 2016 - 7:13 AM Fremantle have cut defender Alex Silvagni as the fallout from the club's disappointing AFL season continues. The 29-year-old was told he would not be offered a new contract, ending his seven-season 53-game association with the Dockers.
He was axed from the playing list after managing just 14 games over the past three seasons because of injury.
"Alex came to the club via the rookie list and worked really hard to get elevated to the primary list and play a fair bit of senior footy in his debut season," Freemantle football operations general manager Chris Bond said.
"Unfortunately, opportunities for Alex to secure a regular spot in the senior side in subsequent seasons were hampered by injury.
"Throughout that time, though, Alex always displayed the many fine attributes that make him the quality person he is, and saw him held in the highest regard by everyone at Fremantle."
Recruited from the Casey Scorpions, he made his debut in round one in 2010.
He was in and out of the side over the past few years and ended 2016 with a WAFL premiership with the Peel Thunder.
He joins Michael Barlow as casualties of the club's disastrous 2016 campaign in which they finished 16th with four wins and 18 losses.
