Dockers appoint rowing coach
Oct 31, 2016 - 7:56 AM Fremantle have turned to a rowing maestro in a bid to help their coaching group get out of their funk.International rowing coach Tom Morris, who guided Canada's women's squad at the Rio Olympics where the lightweight double sculls won silver, has been appointed as Fremantle's coaching high performance manager.
The new position was created to further educate and develop the club's coaching team, which is led by senior coach Ross Lyon.
Morris, who has also previously held the position of senior coach on the Australian national rowing team, will report to Fremantle football operations manager Chris Bond.
Fremantle were dogged by rumours of player unrest in 2016 as the club plunged to one of their worst ever seasons, winning just four games.
The coaching style of Lyon also came under the spotlight amid talk his unrelenting demands put players at risk of burnout.
Morris, who was born and raised in Perth, holds a Bachelor of Psychology from Murdoch University and a Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of WA.
He will work with Lyon, Simon Eastaugh (midfield coach), David Hale (forward line), Michael Prior (back line), Anthony Rock (midfield), and Mark Stone (stoppages and training coordinator).
Development coaches Marc Webb, Brent Guerra, and Roger Hayden will also receive assistance from Morris.
