Dockers to dip into shallow well
Feb 12, 2017 - 6:01 PM As well as changes forced through injury, Fremantle Dockers coach Michelle Cowan said will need to look to the remainder of her squad for a forward line option. The Dockers are winless after two games of the AFL Women's competition, going down to the Brisbane Lions by 13 points on Sunday without scoring a goal in the final term. They dominated play in that final quarter, but kicked just 0.3. They finished with 3.5 from 22 inside 50 entries. The Lions scored 5.6 from 26 journeys into attack.Cowan warned that there wasn't much else to choose from ahead of Saturday's round three game against the GWS Giants."Our inside 50s were better this week (but) we probably need to have some targets up forward," she said."Maybe some changes in our forward line and how we structure up there. We have a smaller squad, (but) Kira Phillips will put her hand up for selection."She is quite a dangerous forward training with the group. She has been training really well over the last week (But) there isn't a whole lot left on the squad."The Dockers have some injury concerns also, with Brianna Green requiring a shoulder scan after she failed to take the field after halftime against the Lions.Reigning Commonwealth Games javelin champion Kim Mickle also watched the second half from the bench with ice on her knee. Mickle also missed the opening AFLW clash due to a hip injury.Tayla Bresland finished the game, but a sore ankle required her to be helped from the ground early on Sunday also.Fremantle will welcome back defender Ebony Antonio, who was suspended after the round-one loss to the Western Bulldogs.Cowan refused to concede that the Dockers were out of contention for the grand final, despite the club's poor start."We'll compete and prepare to compete every game," she said. "I know we have a lot of girls - this is AFL now and they really need to step up to that level."They are up for the challenge and we see other sides step up to the AFL level."We need more of a team effort in that regard."Source: AAP
