Tigers announce two new AFL board members

Feb 28, 2017 - 9:50 AM Richmond have announced two hand-picked company executives will fill the casual vacancies on the AFL club's board.

The orderly transition is a far cry from last September, when the Tigers' poor season on the field prompted an attempted challenge from the Focus On Footy group.

That ticket quickly abandoned its campaign in less than a month, but said they had pressured the club into taking action.

On Tuesday, Richmond announced Henriette Rothschild and Joe Powell had filled the two casual vacancies after they were recommended by a nominations committee.

Former Richmond captain Tony Free stepped down last November and Rex Chadwick resigned in January because of ill health.

Rothschild and Powell are former company managing directors.

"Henriette and Joe bring enormous experience and organisational expertise to the club and we look forward to their contribution," Richmond president Peggy O'Neal said in a statement.

"They also bring an absolute commitment to deliver our members and fans a successful football team which, as always, is our No.1 priority.

"This continues our commitment to succession planning and ensuring we have the right skill set around the board table to build our business and, most importantly, deliver on-field success."

In the past 18 months, Richmond chief executive Brendon Gale has also joined the board, along with former player Emmett Dunne and company chairman John O'Rourke.
