Top Lions AFL draftee out for a month
Mar 7, 2017 - 7:26 AM Brisbane are set to be without top draftee Hugh McCluggage for their AFL season-opening clash with rivals Gold Coast. The highly-rated midfielder injured his ankle in the first quarter of last week's pre-season match against the Western Bulldogs, ruling him out for up to a month.
"We've had scans done and it's a bit more damage than we thought," Brisbane's head of medical Peter Blanch said.
"Hugh's going to be out for probably three or four weeks."
It means McCluggage is certain to miss the round one Q-Clash against the Suns at Metricon Stadium.
But the teenager could be back when the Lions host Essendon at the Gabba the following weekend if he recovers in time.
Pick No.3 McCluggage was described by many recruiters as one of the best natural footballers in last year's draft.
