Lynch to play it cool in Queensland derby
Mar 21, 2017 - 4:34 PM Gold Coast co-captain and forward Tom Lynch aims to play it cool in his side's first fixture of the 2017 AFL season. The Suns take on Brisbane in a match-up that saw tempers flare in 2016 and in their pre-season fixtures earlier this year.
Lynch battled with Lions defenders in a pre-season clash that saw Harris Andrews employing every trick in the book and infuriating Suns coach Rodney Eade.
"Rocket was a bit frustrated after the game," Lynch said.
"I think Rocket was trying to look after me a bit, that was my first game up here and I was trying to make my way a little bit and start the pre-season, I've learned a few things out of that game against Harris Andrews."
Lynch does not shy away from a scrap. The Victorian led the league for contested marks last season.
He will be the target of plenty of niggle from the Lions, but he says this could greatly benefit himself and Suns key forward Peter Wright.
"Having Pete up there will helps me a great deal because he takes the pressure off me and if they're worried about me he's going to get off the chain," he said.
"I think as a forward group, and as a team you've got to work together"
Wright is heading into his third year with the Suns and will eager to make an impact alongside Lynch in the forward line.
