Swans should drop Kieren Jack: Lloyd
Apr 24, 2017 - 9:01 AM Essendon champion Matthew Lloyd believes struggling former Sydney co-captain Kieren Jack may have "fallen off the cliff" and should be dropped to the reserves. The 215-game Sydney stalwart came into the season short of match fitness as he didn't play in any pre-season matches due to a hip injury.
He was pitched straight into the senior team for round one and performed reasonably well tallying 21 touches and seven marks, and picked up 19 disposals in the next game.
However, it's been a case of diminishing returns since, with Jack notching between 12 and 14 possessions in each of his last three games.
A mainstay of the Swans midfield for several seasons, 29-year-old Jack has been adjusting to playing primarily up forward.
That, and the winless Swans inability to consistently deliver quality ball into the forward line, has probably contributed to the decline in his possession count this year, though he hasn't had same the impact with the ball as in previous seasons.
"Kieren Jack may have just fallen off the cliff," Lloyd said on Access All Areas on the AFL's website.
"I think they should throw him back to the NEAFL, get his confidence back."
Jack wasn't the only Swan targeted by Lloyd for being below their best in a side struggling at the bottom of the ladder with a 0-5 record.
"Luke Parker, we all love him as a player, but he's not the player he was," Lloyd said.
'I've been a fan of Kurt Tippett's in the past, no touches after halftime.
"Sam Reid, what a tease he's been, he didn't hit the scoreboard over the weekend.
"Too many of their senior players, when you've got kids in, are not doing enough."
