AFL Suns' Lynch a born leader: Barry Hall
Apr 27, 2017 - 4:05 AM Champion forward Barry Hall says Gold Coast spearhead Tom Lynch is a born leader and absolute star.Hall, who kicked 746 AFL goals across three clubs, has been working this season as a mentor and coach with the Suns' key position players in a part-time capacity.
His role has brought the 2005 Sydney premiership captain in close contact with Suns co-captain Lynch, widely regarded as the most promising forward to emerge in recent years.
"I just think he's a born leader ... he doesn't lead with voice necessarily, he leads with actions," Hall told AAP.
"If stuff doesn't go their way or he thinks the side needs to be dug out of a hole, he tries to make stuff happen and I don't think you can teach that.
"He's just so competitive. He tries to change the outcome through his leadership.
'He's an absolute star I think he's the guy the Suns need to hold on to and keep.
'I think you can really make a club around a player like this."
Hall is relishing a similar role to the one held at Sydney by his old Swans teammate Tony Lockett, the code's all-time leading goalkicker.
"It's good to see Plugger back there, I think he's got a lot to offer," said Hall, who played a few games with Lockett in the latter's ill-fated comeback season in 2002.
Hall has plenty to occupy him outside of football, with his partner expecting their first child in six weeks and him being the April ambassador for Autism Australia.
Last week he conducted an AFL clinic in Sydney for children on the autism spectrum aged between five and 14.
He is encouraging fathers of autistic children to talk about their experiences, but recognises it isn't always easy for men to open up.
"I've been in situations before where I have been too proud and haven't asked for help and I've got myself into trouble," Hall said.
"Being a dad soon I wanted help and I've been asking for advice myself."
