Crows must embrace being hunted: Walker
May 8, 2017 - 4:00 AM AFL ladder leaders Adelaide must adjust to being a hunted team, captain Taylor Walker says. The Crows suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday after North Melbourne kicked 10 goals against them in the opening quarter.
Walker stopped short of describing the 59-point loss in Hobart as a wake-up call for his Crows.
"It's just footy," Walker told reporters on Monday.
"If you're not on top of your game, especially when you're on top of the ladder, teams want to knock you off.
"You have got to be able to take the punch in the face and be able to respond. And we weren't able to do that."
Walker said Adelaide's leadership core had shouldered the blame for the loss.
"I will put my hand up first - it was probably one of my poorer games this year and in the last two or three years," he said.
"So I need to review that not only as a player, but as a leader.
"Sometimes you just need to make decisions on-field, whether it's the right or wrong one, you need to deal with that during the week.
"It's a learning curve for us as leaders."
Walker's fellow forward Tom Lynch will face fitness tests later this week after being concussed in the loss to the Roos.
And Walker said the Crows would be hell-bent on winning their share of contested ball against Melbourne on Saturday night at Adelaide Oval.
"We have been top two for contested footy and we understand how important contested footy is to our game plan," he said.
"As soon as we go away from that we will get the results we had on the weekend."
