Essendon edge closer to Daniher deal
Jun 22, 2017 - 7:35 AM Essendon coach John Worsfold expects the AFL's pay announcement will prompt a wave of re-signings, including that of star forward Joe Daniher.Daniher has reportedly been offered a three-year contract extension by the Bombers worth $2 million.
The AFL and its players' union signed a new agreement earlier this week, meaning there is no longer any uncertainty about how much the salary cap will grow.
"No doubt there will be a wave of re-signings and announcements over the next couple of weeks. We've got two or three players that we're confident - this will now help us get those (deals) finalised," Worsfold said in Sydney on Thursday.
Asked about 23-year-old Daniher specifically, Worsfold suggested a deal wasn't far off.
"I said that a couple of weeks ago and it was obviously linked to the announcement with the AFLPA. Now that's out of the way we can move forward pretty quickly," he said.
Worsfold noted last month that re-signing Daniher was the club's "No.1 priority" when discussing a potential big-money bid for Richmond superstar Dustin Martin.
Darcy Parish and David Zaharakis are also out of contract at the Bombers, who sit eighth on the ladder ahead of their crunch clash with Sydney.
Daniher has booted 34 goals this season, taking his game to another level. Some pundits have suggested the key forward should be in the mix for All-Australian selection.
