Tigers' Houli facing ban after AFL report
Jun 25, 2017 - 9:55 AM Richmond look set to lose playmaker Bachar Houli to suspension for next week's important AFL clash with Port Adelaide.Houli was reported during Sunday's 26-point win over Carlton after knocking out Jed Lamb with a crude swinging arm to his face.
A dazed Lamb was helped to the rooms after the first-quarter incident and did not return to the game.
The Blues later confirmed that Lamb had suffered a concussion and would receive scans later in the week.
It is almost certain the match review panel will not look kindly upon the incident given the AFL's desire to protect players from knocks to the head.
Neither coach claimed to have seen the incident when asked after the game but Richmond coach Damien Hardwick defended Houli's character.
"At the end of the day there's other people who make those decisions, not me," Hardwick said.
"Bachar's one of those guys, I don't think I need to say what his record is. Whatever the incident is, we'll move on."
With the exception of a $900 fine for wrestling in 2014, 11-year veteran Houli has a clean tribunal record.
Blues coach Brendon Bolton said he hadn't had the chance to speak to Lamb after the incident.
"Obviously he missed the game, so that's the concussion test and our medicos following good strong protocol," Bolton said.
"We know we want to look after players' welfare so if he's missed the game, he must have been a little bit dodgy at the time."
The incident soured a strong game from Houli, who constantly set up the Tigers' offensive chains with his silky ball use.
The half-back flanker finished with 28 disposals, nine marks and five tackles as the Tigers notched an 11.18 (84) to 8.10 (58) victory.
His likely suspension is ill-timed, with the sixth-placed Tigers preparing to face the fourth-placed Power at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.
