Force re-sign Lance on one-year Super deal

Jul 3, 2017 - 9:31 AM Flyhalf Jono Lance has become the latest player to re-sign with the Western Force, committing to the Perth-based franchise for the 2018 Super Rugby season.

Lance's two years at the Force have been blighted by injuries, but he came close to making his Wallabies debut last year after being called into the extended squad.

The 27-year-old has played 10 matches for the Force this season, and is on track to return from a broken hand in Friday night's clash with the Rebels in Perth.

Lance joins the likes of prop Ben Daley, winger Chance Peni, flanker Richard Hardwick, scrumhalf Michael Ruru, and lock Richard Arnold as Force players to have re-signed over the past fortnight.

It's believed another four Force players will re-sign soon.

"I'm really pumped to be staying in Perth," said Lance, who has also played for the Queensland Reds and NSW Waratahs.

"The last two years have been really exciting for me, I feel I've made Perth my home now and really enjoying the group of guys here, it's our own little family.

"This is my third team and I can safely say the fans here are as good as you'll get.

"They stick around through the tough times, they get behind you when you need it and I know something is building in this team, so it's going to be great when we get to share that with them."

The Force's recent signing frenzy has been a show of faith from the players despite the franchise's uncertain future.

Either the Rebels or Force will be axed ahead of next season.

The Rebels are also trying to get on the front foot regarding player re-signings, announcing the retention of captain Nic Stirzaker, James Hanson, Steve Cummins, and Fereti Sa'aga.

But fullback Jack Debreczeni, Mitch Inman, and Toby Smith have already announced their departures, while Wallaby Sean McMahon is expected to sign a lucrative deal with a Japanese team.
