Ablett not on Cats' radar during GC stay
Jul 6, 2017 - 3:06 AM They've spent the week in his backyard but Geelong insist they've kept away from Gold Coast star Gary Ablett during their Queensland stay. The Cats have been training on the Gold Coast this week ahead of an AFL clash with Brisbane at the Gabba on Saturday.
Ablett requested a trade from Gold Coast to the Cats last year, a move the Suns refused.
Talk of a return to Geelong for the dual Brownlow Medallist hasn't gone away, however, with Ablett refusing to confirm his future beyond this season.
Cats ruckman Zac Smith has said he's been regularly contacting his former Suns teammate to convince him to make the move back to Victoria.
But Scott says there's been no official chat with Ablett, yet.
"I did see some press that Zac Smith's obviously very close with him so I assume they've caught up but I haven't got the latest there," Scott said.
"We'll leave Gary alone, for the moment."
Scott says the Gold Coast stay has been a good change of pace for his squad as they look to cement their place in the competition's top four.
"Within the industry it will be determined as a success or a failure based on how we go Saturday night," he said.
"I think the real conclusion is a bit more nuanced than that.
"Certainly we feel like, at this stage of the year, it's good to change things up and get a bit of variety.
"Maybe it helps us four or five weeks down the track."
