Magpies poach Eagles AFL assistant coach
Sep 22, 2017 - 4:13 AM Collingwood have poached well-regarded West Coast assistant coach Justin Longmuir to serve under Nathan Buckley in the 2018 AFL season.Longmuir will oversee the Magpies' backline, having spent seven years at West Coast where he was most recently their senior assistant coach.
The former Fremantle ruck-forward had previously served in recruiting and development roles with the Dockers.
"Justin has been an integral part of two successful football programs, particularly with West Coast during a period of sustained finals football, so we look forward to him bringing that wealth of knowledge into our coaching team," Magpies football boss Geoff Walsh said on Friday.
"He has a well-balanced resume, having overseen the forward line, ruck, tackling and development before taking on the senior assistant role.
"We think that diverse experience coupled with his strong playing and leadership background makes Justin a really valuable asset for our program."
With Buckley granted a two-year contract extension, Brenton Sanderson and Robert Harvey will continue in their assistant roles.
The Pies last week appointed recently retired Western Bulldogs premiership player Matthew Boyd to serve as a development coach.
They remain in the hunt for a new midfield coach to replace Scott Burns, who will serve under Alastair Clarkson at Hawthorn next season.
