Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren: Boxing Odds and Betting Pick

In what might just be the new era of boxing, YouTuber/Rapper/TikTok Star Jake Paul -192 will step into his third professional fight, this time against former UFC fighter and Olympian wrestler Ben Askren +150. Following what has been at times a contentious Twitter back and forth, the two will finally let their gloves do the talking inside of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Will Paul’s slight size advantage give him the edge over a professional fighter in Askren? Let’s take a closer look.

Jake Paul (2-0) vs. Ben Askren (0-0)

Making his debut in boxing, Askren accrued a record of 19-2 in the UFC while also fighting in Bellator and ONE becoming a welterweight champion in both. A decorated wrestler, Askren also competed in the 2008 Olympics but fell short of medaling.

While wrestling was his main method of victory during his time in MMA, Askren does have six victories via KO, including two of his last three bouts.

For Paul, the 24-year-old social media influencer, his search for respect in the fighting game could take a big step forward Saturday with a win over Askren. In what will be the toughest test of his young boxing career, Paul will have a slight height advantage but a potential 20-pound weight advantage.

Fighting at cruiserweight which just caps their wights at 200 pounds, Askren fought at 170 during his MMA career while Paul fought at 189 pounds in his last boxing match. Though it’s just his third professional fight, those who know the sport the best have commented on Paul’s exception form and striking ability, which when paired with his size and power, could prove the distance in this one.

Bottom Line

While many will look to Askren’s experience in professional fighting as a major advantage, we are now talking bigger gloves with different angles against the bigger Paul. Additionally, though there’s no doubt this is a money grab for both, Paul seems to have serious boxing ambitions while the now unemployed Askren will be getting his biggest pay-day to date.

In a fight I see potentially going to the later rounds as Askren should have the natural ability to dodge some early blows, I like the bigger stronger (and younger) Paul to outlast the former MMA professional.
