Former eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao (-430) will make his return to the ring Saturday night, and it won’t be to face the opponent he planned for. After unified champion, Errol Spence Jr., was forced to withdraw from the fight recently due to a torn retina, Yordenis Ugas (+300), whose opponent for Saturday was also forced to withdraw due to injury, stepped up to take the fight.

Will the last-second change in opponent be an issue for the veteran Pacquiao?

With over 70 professional fights to his name, Manny “PAC-Man” Jones will step back into the ring Saturday night after a two-year layoff with the hopes of avoiding any ring rust against a worthy opponent in Ugas. The last time we saw him inside the ring was a July 2019 victory over Keith Thurman that earned up the WBA belt.
He faces a newly selected opponent in Ugas who has just one defeat since 2015 and is increasingly considered one of the best boxers in the welterweight division. First fighting for a WBC belt in 2019, he first lost (via split decision) to Shawn Porter but later captured the vacant WBC title in a win (also split decision) over Abel Ramos.

Bottom Line

With the World Boxing Association Super World Welter Title on the line, Saturday is easily the biggest fight of Ugas’ relatively short career against one of the all-time greats in Pac-Man. Since joining the sport just over a decade ago, Ugas has just one loss that went anyway but a split decision and has quietly been stacking some impressive results against legit opponents.

On the other side of this battle, Pacquiao comes in having done it all in this sport (and outside of it), as the 42-year-old’s best days are no doubt behind him. Speaking of outside the ring, Pacquiao will go directly from this fight into heavy campaigning as he looks to become the president of the Phillippines while also dealing with corruption allegations.

In the end, I think there’s a lot of inflated juice being placed on the more popular Pacquiao, and the value is sliding to the side of Ugas. His orthodox stance and strong right will catch I believe will catch Pacquiao by surprise, and I like for the underdog to get the job done in Vegas on Saturday night.
