Stamps beat Als on late Burris TD run
Aug 28, 2011 - 12:19 AM Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Henry Burris scrambled for a six-yard touchdown run with 55 seconds remaining, turning Anthony Calvillo's interception into the game-winning score as Calgary beat Montreal 38-31.Burris passed for 422 yards and three touchdowns and Johnny Forzani had six catches for 101 yards and two scores for the Stampeders (6-2), who won their fourth straight game.
Calvillo threw for 369 yards and three touchdowns, but was intercepted by Keon Raymond in the waning moments of the fourth quarter with the game tied at 31-31.
The Alouettes (5-3) had a two-game winning streak snapped and will have to wait a while for a chance at revenge. The teams are scheduled to meet again on October 30 at Molson Stadium in Montreal.
The teams were tied, 21-21, heading into the fourth quarter. In between long field goals by Montreal's Sean Whyte and Calgary's Rene Paredes, the Stampeders had a touchdown called back when Burris' 27-yard pass to Forzani was negated by an illegal block.
No matter, as Burris found Forzani from 37 yards on the next play for a score.
Later, Calvillo and Brandon Whitaker connected for a 19-yard touchdown to tie the game at 31-31 with 2:08 remaining in the game. After a Calgary punt, Calvillo was intercepted on the first play by Raymond, who took it back 22 yards to set up the winning score.
Coming off a bye week, Montreal had a 10-1 lead after the first quarter on Whyte's 37-yard field goal and Calvillo's 16-yard touchdown pass to Jamel Richardson, who caught eight balls for 136 yards and two scores in the game.
The first TD came after a Calgary fumble.
The Stampeders scored their first touchdown in the second quarter on Burris' 15-yard pass to Forzani, but Calvillo and Richardson hooked up again from 10 yards for another Alouettes score.
Calgary pulled within 18-11 at halftime after Paredes' 17-yard field goal near the end of the second quarter. Paredes booted a 35-yarder early in the third quarter and Burris threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Ken-Yon Rambo to make it 21-18 Stampeders.
Montreal tied the game heading into the fourth on Whyte's 43-yarder in the final minute.
Game Notes
Montreal had won three of the last four meetings entering the game...Whitaker led the Alouettes with 48 rushing yards. Burris scurried for 29 yards to pace Calgary...Both clubs are back in action on Labour Day, with Calgary hosting Edmonton and the Als looking to get back into the win column in Hamilton.
