Ray, Kackert lead Argonauts past Stampeders

Aug 19, 2012 - 2:24 AM Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Ricky Ray threw for 316 yards and Chad Kackert filled the stat sheet with more than 130 yards rushing and receiving, leading the Toronto Argonauts to a 22-14 win over the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday night.

Ray completed 21-of-33 passes, including a 26-yard touchdown strike to Andre Durie in the third quarter. The Argos (4-3) got the rest of their points on five field goals from Swayze Waters in five attempts, winning for the third time in four games.

Kackert gained 94 yards on 14 rushes and caught five passes for 41 yards.

Kevin Glenn completed 22-of-33 passes for 292 yards and a late touchdown for Calgary (3-4), but also threw an interception. The Stampeders have dropped two of three.

After six combined field goals by the teams, Ray led an 82-yard drive for the game's first touchdown to end the third quarter.

Ray completed two passes to Jason Barnes for a total of 28 yards and hit Mike Bradwell for a nine-yard gain. After a 13-yard pass interference penalty on Calgary, he and Durie connected on a 26-yarder in the final seconds of the third quarter to make it 19-6 Toronto.

Waters kicked his fifth field goal in the fourth quarter, a 38-yarder, and the Stampeders responded with their only touchdown on Glenn's eight-yard pass to Chris Bauman in the final minute.

The teams relied on their kickers in the first half.

Waters booted field goals of 23 and 27 yards for Toronto in the first quarter and drilled an 11-yarder in the second. Rene Paredes had field goals of 18 and 14 yards in the second quarter to keep the Stampeders within 9-6 heading into halftime, but Waters extended the Toronto lead to six points with a 48-yarder in the third.

Toronto beat Calgary 39-36 on July 7 on Noel Prefontaine's 28-yard field goal as time expired ... The Argos have won five in a row in the series.
