Stampeders rally late to top Tiger-Cats

Sep 14, 2013 - 4:54 AM Calgary, AB (Sports Network) - Bo Levi Mitchell connected with Marquay McDaniel for a 15-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter to lift the Calgary Stampeders to a 26-22 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday.

The Stampeders (9-2) went into the fourth quarter trailing 22-16. Rene Paredes nailed a 24-yard field goal early in the fourth to pull Hamilton within 22-19.

The Tiger-Cats (5-6) had a chance to make it a six-point game with just under four minutes left, but Luca Congi missed a 37-yard field goal attempt, giving the Stamps good field position.

Mitchell hit Bran Sinopoli for a 32-yard gain on 3rd-and-6 before finding McDaniel for the touchdown strike three plays later.

Henry Burris drove Hamilton in Calgary territory, but was picked off by Chris Randle as time expired and the Stamps held on for the win.

Mitchell finished the game 20-for-30 passing for 257 yards, two touchdown and two interceptions and Maurice Price caught five passes for 108 yards and a score for Calgary, winners in four straight.

Burris was 26-for-39 for 408 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions and C.J. Gable caught six passes for 108 yards and also rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown on nine carries for the Ti-Cats, which lost for the second time in three games.

Burris became the fifth player in CFL history to eclipse 50,000 career passing yards with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Onrea Jones in the second quarter.

Hamilton got on the board just 1:56 into the game as Burris connected with Andy Fantuz for a 37-yard touchdown pass.

Paredes drilled a 15-yard field goal nearly five minutes later to make it 7-3, but the Tiger-Cats picked up a single on Josh Bartel's punt with 7:13 left in the first quarter.

Paredes connected on a 29-yarder with 1:08 left in the opening frame to make it 8-6.

Mitchell's 80-yard touchdown pass with just over nine minutes to play in the first half gave the Stamps a 13-8 lead, but Burris found Jones in the end zone with 17 seconds left to send Hamilton into the break with a 15-13 advantage.

Gable bulled his way in from five yards out to make it a two-possession game, but Paredes split the uprights from 43 yards out with 4 1/2 minutes to play in the third to keep the Stamps within striking distance.
