Stampeders dismiss Ticats

Sep 29, 2013 - 2:49 AM Guelph, ON (Sports Network) - Kevin Glenn threw for 238 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Calgary Stampeders to a 35-11 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Alumni Stadium.

Glenn completed 17-of-26 pass attempts and tossed an interception for Calgary (10-3), which has won four of five and has the CFL's best record. Jabari Arthur tallied four receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns, while Jon Cornish rushed for 114 yards on 15 carries.

For Hamilton (6-7), Henry Burris disappointed by completing 13-of-24 passes for 134 yards with three interceptions. He was replaced late in the game by Dan LeFevour, but he did not fare any better (9-of-17, 112 yards, two INTs). C.J. Gable carried the ball 13 times for 132 yards and added 36 receiving yards, while Andy Fantuz had seven receptions for 90 yards.

"We have plenty of work to do," Burris said. "We have to work hard and improve. We played like crap tonight."

In a quiet first quarter, the only score came on a single by Brett Lauther to put Hamilton up, 1-0.

Calgary responded with 17 unanswered points in the second quarter. Glenn completed a couple of long scoring strikes, a 52-yarder to Arthur and a 42- yarder to Maurice Price, then Rene Paredes knocked through a 43-yard field goal.

The Ticats halted the Stampeders' run in the final minute of the half when Lauther connected on a 27-yard field goal.

Calgary added to its lead early in the third quarter with a 44-yard field goal off the foot of Paredes. The rout continued later in the frame following a 16- yard touchdown run by Drew Tate.

Hamilton made things interesting late in the third quarter, driving down the field in less than three minutes and scoring on a LeFevour one-yard rush.

The Stampeders wasted no time building their lead back up, as Glenn hooked up with Arthur on another scoring strike, this time from 35 yards out.

Calgary added one more single before the game was out.

"Our coach (John Hufnagel) prides us to get better every week," Arthur said. "The defense gave us the turnovers in the first half, and as an offense we were able to score on them. Our defense was great tonight."
