New Comm Games tickets to go on sale

Nov 15, 2017 - 4:18 AM In sporting parlance, Gold Coast Commonwealth Games chief Mark Peters is approaching the final turn.

And Peters, the chief executive officer of Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Corporation, says he's feeling humbly confident.

"It's just good to see things come to fruition, but never be over-confident about the next 140 days," Peters told AAP on Wednesday.

"It's a good space to be in at the moment."

Peters and his team are about to release around 100,000 "prime" tickets to previously soldout events at Gold Coast's Games from April 4-15 next year.

The tickets, on sale from Monday, are available as venue designs have been finalised - Games organisers now know exact seating plans for high-demand events such as the opening ceremony and basketball and netball gold medal matches.

In the initial sales phase, punters registered interest for high-demand events and then went into a ballot.

But Monday, as Peters puts it, is "first-in, best-dressed".

"It's a chance for those people who missed out the first time around," he said.

"This next push is a key one because we know there are so many people out there waiting who were disappointed they couldn't get the initial ones."

A further 200,000 tickets for preliminary sessions which were unsold during the initial sale phase will also be re-released.

About 900,000 of the overall 1.2 million Games tickets have already sold.

"We knew the Games would be really popular but 900,000 - that blew us away ... it's quite phenomenal," Peters said.

The fresh ticket sale is another milestone for Games organisers and Peters, who says preparations are on time and budget.

"We're in good shape," he said.

"It time now to be humbly confident, celebrate each day because there's great things happening ... there is such an excitement around."
