Renegade Pattinson focused on BBL return
Jan 6, 2017 - 5:51 AM Melbourne Renegades paceman James Pattinson says he's fully recovered from his latest injury setback and raring to return to the Big Bash. But the 26-year-old insists a return to the national side is far from his mind, despite the crowded summer schedule presenting plenty of limited-over opportunities.
Pattinson missed the opening rounds of the BBL with a minor hamstring injury but has been named in a 13-man Renegades squad to face the Melbourne Stars at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.
"I've had four or five good bowls now at my maximum in the nets. I'm feeling really good," Pattinson said on Friday.
"Hopefully I can get out there and once the adrenaline kicks in, I can play some good cricket.
"The boys have had a really good start to the tournament. Hopefully I can get out there tomorrow night and help contribute to another win for the Renegades and really set up our season well."
Pattinson is considered among Australia's most talented quicks when fit but was sidelined for most of last year with leg and back injuries.
While a Test return is unlikely before next summer's Ashes, the coming months will include Twenty20 matches against Sri Lanka and a one-day international tour of New Zealand which could present opportunities for Pattinson.
"To be honest, it's completely out of my mind at the moment," he said.
"My goal was to be ready for the start of the Big Bash. That didn't happen. I had a minor hiccup so now I'm just trying to get through these next few games and see how we go there."
The Renegades have also confirmed the signing of Sri Lankan allrounder Thisara Perera as an international replacement for West Indian Dwayne Bravo, who will miss the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury.
The Stars have made one change after losing their past two games, with Rob Quiney returning from injury to replace Seb Gotch.
