Maddinson ready for MCG return: Sixers

Jan 20, 2017 - 6:00 PM Nic Maddinson on Saturday returns to the MCG, scene of what the aggressive batsman dearly hopes won't be his final Test.

Maddinson is yet to truly fire for the Sydney Sixers since his Test axing, producing knocks of two, 24, 26 and seven.

But Twenty20 cricket is by nature hit or miss. The No.3 batsman remains one of the key wickets in what could be a virtual quarter-final between the Sixers and Melbourne Stars.

"He's obviously a major player for us. He's one of those batters that can change the game in the space of a few overs," Sixers skipper Moises Henriques said.

"There's no ground big enough for him.

"It's just a matter of him giving himself a chance.

"It might just be a couple of balls or a couple of shots that get you back on your feet and get you running, kickstart you into a mountain of runs."

The Sixers were embarrassed in their most recent BBL clash, failing to pass 100 in a heavy loss to Sydney Thunder.

Maddinson was one of many batsmen stinging after the result.

"He's obviously been pretty disappointed with what happened last game, as was everyone," Henriques said.

"Going into this game will probably just make him even hungrier.

"He seems fine. He's never one to give up too much, whether he's not going well or going well."

The Sixers are contesting the final game of the regular season, meaning they will know exactly what's required to reach the finals.
