Scorchers enter BBL semis ladder leaders

Jan 21, 2017 - 7:30 PM The Perth Scorchers enter the BBL semi-finals as ladder leaders after a turnaround in batting form and a four-wicket win over the Hobart Hurricanes.

Shaun Marsh's 57-run contribution at Bellerive Oval on Saturday helped the side easily chase down a 135-run target and earn themselves a home-ground advantage on Tuesday when they meet Melbourne Stars at the WACA.

"We've been pretty poor in the last couple of games so it was nice to get out there as a batting group and chase them down and book ourselves a home final during the week," Marsh told reporters after play.

One of those lacklustre performances was the Scorchers' seven-wicket loss to Stars at the WACA on January 14, and the hosts will be hoping to avoid a repeat performance.

In that match Marsh made just eight runs and Michael Klinger three.

In Hobart the pair managed an 82-run partnership, while Scorchers also welcomed back Sam Whiteman and skipper Adam Voges to the top-order, who had been absent a week earlier in Perth.

Marsh paid credit to former Test paceman Mitchell Johnson who took 2-15 from his four overs on Saturday and boasts nine wickets for his seven BBL appearances this season.

"We've had Jason Behrendorff (leg) and Joel Paris (side strain) go down and to have Mitch come in and do what he's done, it's no surprise in our camp what he's been able to achieve," Marsh said.

Paceman Tim Bresnan (2-20) was also valuable for Scorchers on Saturday.
