Mitchell Johnson signs for BBL's Scorchers
Oct 24, 2017 - 7:44 AM Mitchell Johnson has recommitted for another Big Bash League campaign with champions Perth Scorchers, vowing to be both mentor and student during the Twenty20 competition.Johnson claimed 13 wickets in his first season with the Scorchers, including a record-breaking 3-3 from four overs in a semi-final win against the Melbourne Stars.
The Scorchers finished top of the table in BBL06 and went on to defeat the Sydney Sixers in the final to claim their third BBL title.
The former Test quick, turning 36 next week, also won the Indian Premier League this year with the Mumbai Indians.
"If I'm honest and look at what happened (this) year ... I should probably retire on a high," Johnson said on Tuesday.
"But Twenty20 is more and more becoming a game that the older guys can play.
"I'm still learning about the game. You're always trying to evolve. I'll probably be able to learn a few things off the young guys."
Johnson, who snared 313 Test wickets and 239 ODI scalps during an impressive international career, added there was some "unfinished business".
"I want to help the team go back-to-back and, given this is the last season at the WACA, I really can't wait to get back out there and enjoy the atmosphere," he said.
"I might not even be in the first XI ... we'll suck it and see.
"Whatever JL (coach Justin Langer) and the team needs, I'll be there."
The left-armer, who is set to roll his arm over this week in the nets with Western Australia's squad, is yet to play a competitive fixture since the IPL.
"I've started bowling and finding it a little bit difficult ... it's always hard training by yourself," he said.
"It happened last year. When I first started bowling, I felt like maybe I wasn't going to get through."
The Scorchers launch their title defence on December 23 with a BBL06 final rematch against the Sixers at the SCG.
