Broken finger rules Agar out of ODI series
Sep 25, 2017 - 7:00 AM Australia have suffered another blow with scans confirming spinner Ashton Agar has a broken finger, ruling him out of the remainder of the one-day series with India. The left-armer hurt his right little finger while fielding in Indore on Sunday as Australia lost the series with a third-straight defeat.
He returned to finish his spell, but with two dead rubbers to play Agar will head back to Australia to recover.
"Following the conclusion of the match he went for x-rays which have confirmed a fracture of the finger," team doctor Richard Saw said.
"He will return home to Australia and consult a specialist with a possibility of surgery."
Agar played the second match in Kolkata, picking up 1-54 off nine overs before cramping up in extreme heat, and returned figures of 1-71 as Australia lost the series in game three.
Australia will not replace the 23-year-old for the final two matches, giving legspinner Adam Zampa the chance to return to the team.
Hardik Pandya was sent out to attack Agar in Indore and smashed him for four sixes.
While Pandya finished with 78 off 72 balls, Australia captain Steve Smith dropped a chance to remove the destructive allrounder on 42 off Agar's bowling.
"I thought he bowled well at times, (but) probably a little bit full to Pandya at times," Smith said.
"When he did get it right and probably bowled a little bit shorter and a little bit wider, I couldn't catch it so that wasn't ideal.
"But I thought Ashton bowled pretty well to be fair."
The series continues in Bengaluru on Thursday before wrapping up in Nagpur on Sunday.
