Rockies sign Hundley to two-year deal

Jan 5, 2015 - 11:23 PM Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rockies have signed catcher Nick Hundley to a two-year contract.

The deal is reportedly worth $6.25 million -- $3.1 million in 2015 and $3.15 million in 2016.

Hundley hit a combined .243 with six home runs and 22 RBI in 83 games with the Orioles and Padres last season.

The 31-year-old Hundley played more than six seasons for San Diego before being traded to Baltimore for pitcher Troy Patton in May. He was originally selected by the Padres in the second round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Arizona.

Hundley is career .238 hitter with 52 homers and 214 RBI over 560 games with the Padres and Orioles.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Hundley, Colorado designated pitcher Chris Martin for assignment. The right-hander made his MLB debut last year and did not earn a decision in 16 appearances.
