Rockies release P Chacin

Mar 22, 2015 - 8:30 PM Scottsdale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Colorado Rockies announced they released right-handed pitcher Jhoulys Chacin on Sunday.

Chacin, 27, was competing for a spot in Colorado's rotation and had just pitched on Saturday, allowing four runs in three innings. In four spring appearances, he had a 6.52 ERA and five strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings.

Last season was of Chacin's career when he finished with a 5.40 ERA in 63 1/3 innings. He was shut down in July due to a rotator cuff injury. He was just coming off a career season in 2013 when he won 14 games and posted a 3.47 ERA in a career-high 197 1/3 innings.

In 124 appearances (109 starts) for the Rockies in six seasons, Chacin owned a 38-48 record with a 3.78 ERA. He was set to make $5.5 million in 2015.
