Minjee Lee makes amends for LPGA DQ
May 28, 2017 - 11:43 PM A week after costing herself a top-10 finish and $32,000 when she forgot to sign her scorecard, Australia's Minjee Lee has tied second at the LPGA Tour's Volvik Championship.Lee's scorecard blunder at the Kingsmill Championship cost her a tie for 10th and important season-long Race to CME Globe points as she was disqualified but she put it behind her in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Sunday.
The 21-year-old Lee closed with a seven-under-par 65, including eight birdies, to finish at 18-under, one shot behind winner Shanshan Feng (68) and tied with South Korea's Sung Hyun Park (66).
China's Feng bogeyed two of the last three holes as she wobbled to victory while Lee's 65 matched the lowest score for this week's tournament.
"I saw the leaderboard walking up and I was like 'Oh, I'm four shots behind with like two holes to go,'" Lee said.
"So I just tried to play and make as many birdies as I could on the last two holes. I made one."
It was Lee's best result in a season that has included to tied third finishes.
The 27-year-old Feng set a tournament record for a 72-hole score.
She also relished the victory because it was just her third on American soil. It is her seventh overall LPGA victory.
Australia's Sarah Jane Smith shot a 68 to be tied 11th.
