Balester sharp as Nationals edge Tigers

Feb 26, 2009 - 9:45 PM VIERA, Florida (Ticker) -- Collin Balester pitched two scoreless innings Thursday as the Washington Nationals beat the Detroit Tigers, 2-1, in Grapefruit League action.

The righthander did not allow a hit, walking one and striking out one.

Balester was matched by Detroit starter Edwin Jackson, who also pitched a pair of hitless frames, striking out three while surrendering one walk in his first action for the Tigers since being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in the offseason.

Christopher Marrero and Wil Nieves each drove in a run while Pete Orr added a pair of hits for Washington.

Clete Thomas drove in Detroit's lone run.
