Hernandez impressive in Mets' loss to Cardinals

LUCIE, New York (Ticker) -- Livan Hernandez pitched two perfect innings in his spring debut during the New York Mets' 9-8 Grapefruit League loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday.The veteran righthander struck out one to gain the early upper hand for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation over Freddy Garcia, who was not nearly as effective.
Garcia allowed four runs - two earned - and two hits with three walks in just two-thirds of an inning. An error by David Wright at third base did not help his cause.
Bobby Kielty hit a three-run homer to lead the Mets offensively.
St. Louis starter Todd Wellemeyer allowed three runs and four hits while striking out a pair in two innings of work. Josh Kinney, Jason Motte, P.J. Walters and Trever Miller combined to keep the Mets hitless over the next five innings.
Jarrett Hoffpauir and Allen Craig each had two hits and two RBI for the Cardinals.
