Bradley hurt as Cubs top Brewers

Feb 27, 2009 - 12:28 AM MESA, Arizona (Ticker) -- Milton Bradley left in the first inning with mild tightness in his left quad as Joey Gathright and Jake Fox made their claim for spots on the roster in the Chicago Cubs' 7-4 win over the the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday.

Bradley, who signed a three-year, $30 million contract in January, drew a walk in the first inning before being lifted for a pinch runner. He is expected to be back in the lineup this weekend.

Gathright, who is aiming for a role as the fourth outfielder, went 3-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base while batting leadoff.

Fox, who is fighting for a spot as a backup first baseman-outfielder, hit a three-run homer off Seth McClung in the third inning and added a single in three at-bats.

Sean Marshall started for the Cubs and allowed a run and four hits in two innings.

Yovani Gallardo allowed one hit and walked a pair in a scoreless frame for the Brewers, who got a solo homer from Mike Cameron and a pair of doubles from J.J. Hardy.
