Montero, D-backs top Reds

Justin Upton added an RBI single in the first inning and Montero homered leading off the third. Willie Bloomquist had three hits and scored once, and Justin Upton tallied three hits with an RBI for Arizona, which was swept in a three-game set by the Cubs over the weekend.
"We left Chicago not the way we wanted to end it," Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill said. "We came in and just forget what happened in the past."
Wade Miley (10-5) allowed eight hits and three runs while fanning six over 5 2/3 innings to snap a two-start skid. J.J. Putz fanned two in the ninth for his 17th save.
Bronson Arroyo (4-6), who was coming off a three-hit shutout of the Padres, yielded eight hits and five runs over three frames.
Drew Stubbs had a two-run single for the Reds, who had their six-game winning streak broken.
The Reds, who remain in first place in the NL Central, will be without, first baseman Joey Votto for the next 3-to-4 weeks. He will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair torn meniscus in his left knee. The 2010 National League MVP originally hurt the knee during a June 29 game against the Giants when he slid into third base.
Stephen Drew, Bloomquist and Hill singled to load the bases to start the contest before Montero doubled down the left field line. Upton then lined a single into center.
Brandon Phillips doubled in Todd Frazier in the bottom of the first, and the Reds got closer the following frame when Stubbs grounded a hit to left to plate two.
Montero led off the third with a homer to right, and Miley went to work from there, retiring 11 straight batters until Phillips singled with one out in the sixth. Phillips was thrown out at third, though, to end the inning, just after Brad Ziegler came on in relief.
Montero was thrown out at home trying to score on a wild pitch in the seventh inning. The Reds were trying to intentionally walk Chris Young when Bill Bray's pitch went over the plate even though catcher Ryan Hanigan stepped out to take what was supposed to be pitch outside. Montero was tagged out at the plate on the thigh.
"That's not how it was planned," Reds manager Dusty Baker said.
Miguel Cairo came up as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning for the Reds and was ejected after being called out on a ball that hit behind the plate and rolled to the back portion of the base. He was tagged out by catcher Ryan Hanigan.
Game Notes
