Rockies stop streaking D-backs

Jul 26, 2012 - 6:08 AM Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Marco Scutaro knocked in three runs and Dexter Fowler went 3-for-5 and scored twice as the Rockies beat the Diamondbacks, 4-2, to snap Arizona's eight-game home winning streak.

Jeff Francis (3-2) pitched six-plus effective innings to earn his first victory since July 3. The lefty allowed five hits, including solo homers to Jason Kubel and Miguel Montero, and had four strikeouts.

"Other than the two pitches I gave the homers up, I thought I executed well," Francis said. "The guys made some good plays behind me."

The Rockies, who lost their previous three contests, salvaged the finale of this three-game set by receiving strong bullpen work from Adam Ottavino, Matt Belisle and Rafael Betancourt. The trio combined to allow no hits with Betancourt securing his 17th save of the season.

Montero had three hits, but the Diamondbacks had their five-game victory string snapped. Trevor Cahill (8-9) yielded eight hits and four runs over 6 2/3 innings.

Fowler led off the game by tripling to right field and Scutaro followed with a sacrifice fly.

"I just made a couple of mistakes and paid for it," Cahill said. "The triple was tough, but then I thought I made my pitches, but wasn't able to get out of that jam. My stuff feels good, but other than that I don't know what you can do."

Kubel homered to left-center with two outs in the bottom of the first, but the Rockies went ahead in the third when Scutaro grounded a double down the left field line to drive in Francis and Fowler.

Wilin Rosario homered to left with two outs in the fourth for a 4-1 cushion before Francis escaped trouble in the bottom half. Montero singled to put runners at the corners with two down, but Chris Young then flied out to right field.

Montero led off the bottom of the seventh with a homer to right, prompting the Rockies to immediately go to Ottavino. The only base runner the rest of the night for Arizona came when Montero walked with two outs in the ninth. Young struck out swinging to end the game.
