Reyes extends hit streak, Marlins stop Atlanta's victory parade

Aug 2, 2012 - 2:57 AM Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - The Marlins snapped a pair of streaks and Miami shortstop Jose Reyes extended one of his own in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Atlanta Braves.

Carlos Lee collected two hits and drove in Emilio Bonifacio during a three-run first inning for Miami, which halted the Braves' winning streak at a season- high-tying seven games and put the brakes on its seven-game road losing streak.

Reyes, meanwhile, went 2-for-4 to stretch his hitting streak to 19 games, one shy of his career high.

Wade LeBlanc made his first start of the season for Miami, limiting the Braves to one run on five hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Carlos Zambrano (6-9), who was shifted to the bullpen and replaced in the rotation by LeBlanc, relieved the left-hander and earned the win. Zambrano allowed a run on two hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Steve Cishek pitched around a leadoff walk in the ninth to notch his fifth save.

Ben Sheets (3-1) started for Atlanta and surrendered four runs -- three earned -- on 11 hits in 6 2/3 innings. The veteran right-hander struck out eight and walked one.

The Marlins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first. Bonifacio reached on a bunt single to begin the game and Donnie Murphy followed with another base hit to quickly put men on the corners. After Reyes moved Murphy to second with a bunt, Lee, Greg Dobbs and Bryan Petersen each stroked an RBI single.

"They were finding every hole," Sheets said.

A two-out RBI double by Paul Janish put Atlanta on the board in the second.

"The second inning was really a struggle. That's when my pitch count got up," LeBlanc said.

Miami got the run back via an error in the fourth. LeBlanc sliced a double the other way to left and Scott Cousins, who had kept the inning alive with a two-out single, scored when Martin Prado didn't field the ball cleanly.

Chipper Jones scored on Dan Uggla's two-out double in the sixth, trimming Atlanta's deficit to 4-2.

The Braves threatened again in their next turn at the plate, but Freddie Freeman, who had recorded a hit in each of his first three at-bats, lined out to right with the bases loaded to end the seventh.

Game Notes

LeBlanc had a 1.15 ERA in 11 relief appearances for the Marlins this season...Atlanta had won eight of the previous nine meetings with Miami...The Braves placed pitcher Jair Jurrjens on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain. The move cleared a roster spot for recently-acquired lefty Paul Maholm.
