Nolan Reimold and J.J. Hardy blasted back-to-back home runs in a three-run sixth inning for Baltimore while Matt Wieters, Mark Reynolds and Robert Andino were the only other O's with hits.
Jim Johnson worked around two walks and an error from Hardy at shortstop to record his fifth save of the season as Baltimore took its second straight from the White Sox.
"We have a lot of guys that are contributing," remarked Hardy. "Our pitching's been the big story. Chen gets his first win tonight and threw the ball great."
John Danks (1-2) pitched well in his seven-inning start but was charged for all three runs on five hits with five strikeouts. A.J. Pierzynski had two hits and knocked in both of Chicago's runs and the White Sox fell for the third straight game after winning their previous four.
"It's frustrating, but I like that kind of fight," said White Sox manager Robin Ventura. "You're going to lose some like that, but when you battle like that, at-bat after at-bat, you're going to win a lot more games then you're going to lose."
All the scoring took place in the sixth as Andino started the rally with a one-out single to center. Reimold followed with a two-run shot to left- center field before Hardy lifted his solo blast to almost the exact same spot to give the Rockies a 3-0 lead.
Chicago got two back in the bottom half when Brent Morel hit a leadoff single to center and stole second two batters later. Paul Konerko then earned a walk and both Morel and Konerko moved up on a wild pitch before scoring on Pierzynski's double to right field.
Alex Rios followed with a single to push Pierzynski to third and send Chen (1-0) to an early shower. Darren O'Day took over for Chen, getting Alexei Ramirez to pop out before picking off Rios on his way to second to end the threat.
The O's bullpen allowed just one hit over the final 3 2/3 frames to nail down the victory for Chen.
