Floyd (2-3) surrendered a single to Dustin Pedroia with one out in the seventh. Floyd, who fanned nine, was lifted three batters later after an RBI single from Cody Ross and Addison Reed tossed a scoreless inning before Matt Thornton retired four straight Red Sox for his first save of the season.
"He looked really good, looked really tough with moving his fastball," said Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine about Floyd. "He established his fastball in and out and it looked like he had a real dynamite curveball."
Dayan Viciedo added two hits and an RBI, while Adam Dunn belted a two-run blast, as Chicago snapped a five-game losing streak.
Josh Beckett (2-3) was charged for three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out eight over 6 2/3 innings. Boston had its six-game win streak halted.
Alejandro De Aza opened the home half of the first with a single before moving to second on a bunt from Brent Lillibridge. Alex Rios then scorched a single through the left side, plating De Aza from second to take an early 1-0 lead.
Dunn then extended the edge to 3-0 with a towering blast to right field for his 370th career home run and his fifth this season.
"Usually your best opportunity to get some runs, if any, is early and we were able to do that," remarked Dunn about getting to Beckett early.
Floyd cruised through the first four innings, setting down the Sox in order while fanning six. He induced consecutive ground outs to start the fifth, but surrendered a walk to Ross to end the perfect game bid.
Boston finally got to Floyd in the seventh as Pedroia singled and David Ortiz followed with a double to right before Ross got the Red Sox on the board with a single through the left side.
Chicago added some insurance with two outs in the eighth. Alexei Ramirez singled and Kosuke Fukudome drew a walk before Viciedo plated Ramirez to create some breathing room for the White Sox.
Game Notes
