Saltalamacchia, Red Sox dominate Indians

May 14, 2012 - 2:09 AM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Jarrod Saltalamacchia registered three hits, including a two-run home run, to go with five runs batted in as the Boston Red Sox routed the Cleveland Indians, 12-1, in the finale of a four-game set.

Daniel Nava added two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored in the onslaught for Boston, which has won three straight after dropping eight of its previous nine contests.

Will Middlebrooks belted a solo shot among his two hits, scored three runs and drove in two while Adrian Gonzalez chipped in with a pair of doubles and two runs scored.

Daniel Bard (3-4) surrendered a run on six hits and four walks in six innings for the Red Sox.

Justin Masterson (1-3) was touched for six runs on seven hits and a walk in six innings for Cleveland, which has dropped five of its last six.

The Red Sox surged ahead early and plated four two-out runs in the opening frame. After Ryan Sweeney and Dustin Pedroia grounded out, Ortiz walked and Gonzalez slapped a double to left.

Middlebrooks then drilled a single to left, plating Ortiz, before Nava slugged a double off the Green Monster, scoring Gonzalez. Cody Ross was then hit by a pitch, preceding Saltalamacchia's single to right-center, which brought home Middlebrooks and Nava to make it 4-0.

"Everyone was hitting," said Nava. "I was just happy to be involved."

With the bases loaded and one away in the third, Asdrubal Cabrera walked to bring home a run, but Bard escaped the frame with minimal damage after Travis Hafner grounded into an inning-ending, 4-6-3 double play.

Middlebrooks smacked a solo shot in Boston's half of the third to make it 5-1.

The Red Sox added an insurance run in the sixth inning and six more in the seventh. Saltalamacchia cracked an RBI single to left in the sixth, giving Boston a 6-1 lead.

In the seventh, Ortiz smacked an RBI single to center, Nava brought home two with a double to deep center, Ortiz scored on a wild pitch and Saltalamacchia belted a two-run shot to straightaway center, extending the cushion to 12-1.
