White Sox sweep Mariners
Apr 22, 2012 - 11:48 PM Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Kosuke Fukudome knocked in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly as a part of a three-run sixth inning and the Chicago White Sox downed the Seattle Mariners, 7-4, to complete a sweep of a three- game set at Safeco Field.Alex Rios went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, Fukudome had two RBI, while Alexei Ramirez and Adam Dunn both knocked in runs for the White Sox, who have won five straight against the Mariners and eight in a row in Seattle.
A day after Philip Humber tossed a perfect game, John Danks (2-2) was far from it, but he pitched well enough to earn the win with six solid innings. He gave up four runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out six. Hector Santiago picked up his fourth save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
Jesus Montero, Alex Liddi and Dustin Ackley drove home runs for the Mariners, who have lost four straight.
Kevin Millwood (0-1) yielded five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three in defeat.
Trailing, 4-2, heading into the sixth, the White Sox grabbed the lead for good with three runs. Dunn coaxed a leadoff walk and Paul Konerko singled into right field. After A.J. Pierzynski grounded into a fielder's choice, Rios cracked a two-run triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Fukudome to make it 5-4.
Chicago added two more runs in the eighth when Konerko cracked a double to left to lead off the frame and Pierzynski slapped a single to put runners on the corners. Rios then singled home pinch-runner Alejandro De Aza and Fukudome brought home Pierzynski with a single into right field to account for the final margin.
The White Sox opened the scoring in the third inning when Brett Lillibridge ripped a one-out single and came around to score on a double by Ramirez. Dunn then followed with a single to deep right to score Ramirez and give the ChiSox a 2-0 edge.
Seattle answered in the home half of the third with a pair of runs. Chone Figgins worked a one-out walk and Ichiro Suzuki slapped a single to center two batters later to put runners on the corners with two down. Montero then ripped a single into right to bring home Figgins and Liddi followed with a double into left to score Suzuki.
The M's plated two more runs in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. Miguel Olivo and Casper Wells stroked consecutive singles to start the frame and Olivo trotted home on a botched pickoff attempt by Danks before Ackley grounded into a fielder's choice later in the inning to bring home Wells.
