Santana drives in 5 as Indians rout Royals

Sep 23, 2012 - 10:47 PM Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Carlos Santana smacked a pair of home runs and knocked in five, as the Cleveland Indians routed the Kansas City Royals, 15-4, in the finale of a three-game set Sunday at Kauffman Stadium.

Asdrubal Cabrera added two RBI and three runs scored for the Indians, who had lost four of their last five coming in.

David Huff (2-0) earned the victory after giving up just one run on three hits and one walk over 5 2/3 frames.

Adam Moore clubbed his first home run of the year for the Royals, as they saw their four-game winning streak come to an end.

Jake Odorizzi (0-1) looked good early on in his first major league start, but gave up three runs on six hits and a walk over 5 1/3 innings to take the loss.

"I thought it went pretty well," Odorizzi said of his debut. "We ended up getting the loss, which is really the only thing that matters. But I thought I went pretty good. I left some balls up later on in the game and just gave up some hits in the sixth inning."

Moore got the Royals on the board in the third when he crushed a one-out, solo shot deep into left-center field, but Cleveland responded in the sixth, as Jason Kipnis ripped a one-out triple and Cabrera followed with a base hit.

Santana then launched the next pitch into the bullpen in right field to give the Indians a 3-1 edge.

The Tribe tacked on five more in the seventh, as Shin-Soo Choo reached on a fielder's choice, moved to second on Kipnis' single and then stole third before scoring when Moore's throw skipped into left field.

After Cabrera walked, Santana singled to right field and Kipnis scored on Jeff Francoeur's throwing error. Michael Brantley was then intentionally walked before Casey Kotchman and Jack Hannahan smacked back-to-back RBI singles.

Ezequiel Carrera capped the five-run frame with an RBI groundout.

The Royals added a run in the bottom half on Tony Abreu's sacrifice fly and tacked on two more in the eighth when Billy Butler belted an RBI double and Francoeur followed with a run-scoring base hit into center field.

The Indians responded with seven in the ninth to break things open.

Carrera smacked an RBI single, Choo worked a bases loaded walk, Kipnis added an RBI groundout and Cabrera donated a run-scoring single before Santana capped the scoring with a three-run blast over the wall in right field.

"There are a lot of ups and downs," Kipnis said of his team's season. "This team has gone through both of them, so we're just trying to finish up strong and end the year on a high note."

Cleveland went 7-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine on base ... Kansas City went 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position while stranding five ... Kipnis stole his 28th base.
