Dodgers bounce back from no-no to beat M's

Jun 10, 2012 - 3:18 AM Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - One night after six Seattle pitchers held Los Angeles hitless, the Dodgers bounced back and took down the Mariners, 8-3, in the second of a three-game interleague set at Safeco Field.

Jerry Hairston Jr. went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a homer and a career-high five RBI while James Loney, Elian Herrera and Juan Rivera each knocked in a run for Los Angeles, which has won five of its last six.

"I've felt pretty good lately and I just want to make sure I have good at- bats," Hairston said. "After what happened last night (when they were no-hit) we just wanted to turn the page, it's a new day and I felt we did that today."

Clayton Kershaw (5-3) surrendered three runs on four hits and struck out a season-high 12 over seven innings to get the victory.

Miguel Olivo hit a three-run homer and Justin Smoak had a hit and scored a run for the Mariners, who lost for just the second time in five games.

Justin Vargas (7-5) gave up five runs on nine hits over six frames to take the loss.

"You know Hairston killed us today," Vargas said. "The home run that he hit I was trying to go in there and he made a good swing. Then the double that he hit I was trying to go away. They made me work a little bit but besides the first and third innings I felt we executed and kept ourselves in the game."

Hairston's three-run blast in the first gave the Dodgers an early lead. Dee Gordon beat out an infield single and Andre Ethier walked before Hairston crushed his third homer of the year.

Los Angeles pushed two more across in the third to go up 5-0. Herrera singled and stole second before scoring when Hairston doubled to left. Loney followed with a single to plate Hairston.

Seattle cut it to 5-3 in the fourth when Olivo clobbered a three-run homer. Smoak singled and Kyle Seager walked to set the table for Olivo, who belted his fifth four-bagger of the season.

The Dodgers added one in the eighth and two in the ninth to make it 8-3.

In the eighth, Rivera singled then scored when Hairston roped his second RBI double of the night to right-center.

Tony Gwynn and Gordon each hit singles, then executed a double steal to put runners on second and third with one out in the ninth. Herrera grounded into a fielder's choice to score Gwynn and Rivera followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Gordon to cap the scoring.
