Teixeira, Swisher help Yankees top A's

May 26, 2012 - 5:39 AM Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Mark Teixeira and Nick Swisher belted two-run homers, and Ivan Nova stretched his road unbeaten streak as the New York Yankees beat the Oakland Athletics, 6-3, on Friday night.

Robinson Cano added a solo blast for the Yankees, who have won seven in a row at Oakland and 28 of the last 35 contests between these two teams since the start of the 2008 season.

Nova (5-2), who allowed six hits and three runs over seven frames, is undefeated in his last 12 road starts, going 9-0 in that stretch since a loss in Anaheim on June 3 of last season.

"It was nice for a starting pitcher to get a lead and just be able to go to work," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "We had hits all over the place tonight. We know we're capable of scoring runs in bunches."

Josh Reddick and Kila Ka'aihue homered for the Athletics, who lost their third in a row.

Tyson Ross (2-5) gave up 11 hits and six runs -- three earned -- over 4 1/3 innings.

"He started out pretty good, velocity was good," A's manager Bob Melvin. "Then they just got on him."

The Yankees got a fortunate deflection off the glove of Coco Crisp to start the scoring in the opener of this three-game series. Curtis Granderson singled with one out in the third, and with two down Cano sent a line drive to center field. Crisp raced over for the ball, which glanced off his glove to account for the first run. Teixeira then homered to right field.

"It's a ball, unless it took off on him at the last minute, he usually makes a play on," Melvin said.

Reddick hit a ball over the wall in right in the fourth, but the Yankees smacked two over the fence in the ensuing inning. Cano led off with a shot to center.

Teixeira doubled down the left field line when Seth Smith failed to make a sliding catch, but Teixeira was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple. After Raul Ibanez doubled to center, Swisher crushed a pitch over the wall in left. That was the last batter faced by Ross, who was replaced by Jerry Blevins.

Kurt Suzuki's sacrifice fly scored Josh Donaldson in the bottom of the fifth and Ka'aihue homered to right leading off the seventh.

Rafael Soriano gave up a double to Donaldson with two outs in the ninth, but Daric Barton then struck out. Soriano nailed down his fourth save of 2012.

Game Notes

Alex Rodriguez grounded into a double play to stop a bases-loaded chance in the top of the fourth. The Yankees are batting .174 (8-for-46) with the bases loaded this season...The Yankees have won 11 of their last 12 at Oakland.
