Nats down Mets

Sep 12, 2012 - 6:55 AM Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - Tyler Moore had a pinch-hit, two-run home run to help the Washington Nationals take a 5-3 win over the New York Mets in the second of three from Citi Field.

Bryce Harper had the first 4-hit game of his career and drove in a run, while Jayson Werth reached base in all five plate appearances and scored once for the Nationals, who have won three of their last four.

"We want to win as many games as we can here and you can't go to sleep now," said Harper. "A bunch of teams are playing well and you can never count anyone out until it's over."

Jordan Zimmermann tossed five innings in the start and gave up just two runs on six hits, but did throw 104 pitches. Tom Gorzelanny (4-2) got the win for throwing a scoreless sixth inning.

Scott Hairston hit a solo home run, while Daniel Murphy and David Wright each drove one in for the Mets, who have dropped their past five games. R.A. Dickey (18-5) had a three-game winning streak stopped as he gave up three runs on eight hits over seven innings.

"I didn't fell like I had erratic control tonight," said Dickey. "My knuckleball wasn't everything I wanted it to be, but I did go seven innings. I got some double plays in there, but I also made some mistakes."

Washington went into the seventh trailing by a run, but Kurt Suzuki singled with one out and Moore turned on the first pitch he saw for his ninth home run and a 3-2 lead.

Suzuki and Harper each singled in a run in the ninth to give Washington some breathing room, while Hairston homered in the ninth off Tyler Clippard, who struck out Ruben Tejada with a man on base to end the game and pick up his 31st save of the season.

The Nationals worked a run across in the first. Werth led off the game with a single and Harper followed with a double to left. Ryan Zimmerman then brought Werth home with a sac fly to right for a 1-0 lead.

The Mets left the bases loaded in the first inning and hit into a one-out double play in the second. After stranding two in the third, the team was retired in order in the fourth.

In the fifth, New York put together a two-run inning at home for the first time in almost a month. With one out, Tejada singled and Murphy followed with an RBI double. Wright then singled to left for a 2-1 lead.

The last time the team had scored more than one run in an inning at home was a 2-run first inning against Atlanta on August 12.

Game Notes

The Mets had gone 109 innings without scoring multiple runs in an inning at home ... Washington has taken 13 of the 17 games against New York this season ... Washington hit just 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine on base ... New York was 1-for-6 with RISP and left seven.
