Uribe slugs three HRs as Dodgers down D'backs

Sep 10, 2013 - 5:56 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Juan Uribe belted three solo home runs and added an RBI single, and the Los Angeles Dodgers slugged their way past the Arizona Diamondbacks, 8-1, in the opener of a three-game series between the NL West rivals.

Uribe, who had gone deep just once since July 30, spearheaded a power display that trimmed the Dodgers' magic number to win the division to eight.

Adrian Gonzalez added a two-run homer while Hanley Ramirez and Andre Ethier each had solo shots for Los Angeles, which snapped a four-game losing streak, its longest since the beginning of May.

Ricky Nolasco (13-9) benefited from the run support and won his seventh straight decision after allowing just one unearned run on three hits and a walk over 6 2/3 frames.

"Nolasco has been pitching well...and we just haven't been swinging the bats," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said.

Randall Delgado (4-6) remained winless since Aug. 2 as he surrendered five runs on seven hits -- four homers -- in only 2 2/3 innings for Arizona, which has dropped three of its last four.

Ethier, the last Dodgers player to hit three home runs in a game, started the slugfest with a leadoff homer in the second.

Uribe followed with a blast of his own, and two more homers in the third -- one Gonzalez's two-run shot, the other Uribe's second of the night -- gave the Dodgers a 5-0 cushion.

Didi Gregorius put the Diamondbacks on the board with a two-out RBI double in the fifth, but Ramirez quickly got the run back in the bottom half when he greeted Eury De La Rosa with his 18th home run of the year.

Three batters later, Uribe launched his longest homer of the night, then came up in the seventh with a chance at becoming the 17th player in MLB history to hit four home runs in a game.

This time, however, he hit the ball on the ground and beat out an infield single to plate Ramirez.

"I just waited for the ball tonight," Uribe said. "I'm happy I helped the team win."
